ACT II will present The Drowsy Chaperone at the Paramount Theater in downtown Burlington, NC. This hilarious musical farce features a harried best man, gangsters comically posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, mistaken identities, dream sequences, an unflappable English butler, a desperate Broadway impresario and his Follies production, and one show-stopping song and dance number after another.

Regular performance dates are March 9-11 and 16-18, 2018. There will be eight performances in total.

ACT II productions are specifically designed for older and/or more experienced youth actors. Auditions are open to youth 9th grade and above, and those 18 years old or younger on the date of auditions. Youth in the 8th grade may also audition, but will only be considered for casting if 1) they have previously participated as cast or crew in three or more ACT productions, and 2) there are no older auditionees who in the Director’s judgment can adequately fill a role.

A Character List is provided below.

Auditions will be:

Wednesday, January 3, 2018 – 7:00 pm
and
Thursday, January 4, 2018 – 6:00 pm

at
First Baptist Church

Those auditioning should:

  • Print out and complete the forms provided below prior to arrival at auditions.
  • Prepare a verse and chorus of a song from memory, if possible, to be sung along with either sheet music (accompanist provided) or an accompaniment (“karaoke”) track that auditionees should provide.
  • Be prepared for a cold read with other auditionees from materials provided at the auditions.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and shoes since all auditionees will participate in movement choreography. Shorts, jeans, flip-flop shoes and sandals are definitely discouraged.
  • Bring character shoes and tap shoes if you have them.

All auditionees will participate in the Choreography portion of the audition.

There will also be an OPTIONAL tap audition. All auditionees are encouraged to participate in the tap audition for the benefit of the production as a whole. Those not participating in the tap audition will NOT be considered for the roles of Robert and George.

Potential cast members need to attend only one night of auditions unless asked to attend Callbacks.

Callbacks, if any, will be Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 9:00 am at First Baptist Church.

In preparation for auditions, please read these materials and bring the completed form to the audition. You can attach your own picture to the form. ACT will also be taking individual pictures each night for those who do not provide their own.

ACT II is actively seeking a Tech Crew (including a versatile Props Master to also assist with sets) for The Drowsy Chaperone. ACT II encourages interested individuals to complete the form below and submit it AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to Greg Wilder at oldwestheel@yahoo.com.

The final cast and crew list will be posted on ACT’s Facebook Page by Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 6:00 PM. Those individuals must email Lisa Chester to accept or decline your role at lmchester@triad.rr.com by 5:00 PM on Sunday, January 7, 2018.

On Tuesday, January 9th, all of the cast, crew members, parents/guardians, directors, and producers will meet at Alamance Lutheran Church (4008 SOUTH Highway 62, Alamance, NC) at 6:30 pm. A great deal of important information will be discussed, so it is MANDATORY that each cast member and a parent/guardian attend this meeting. A $50 Participation Fee will be collected from each cast member ($40 for each additional sibling). This fee helps to cover some of the production’s costs. Scholarships are available to ensure that no young person is unable to participate. Please speak to one of the producers after the parent meeting to make these arrangements. Scholarship families will be requested to “Pay what they can” and will be asked to contribute additional volunteer hours to the production.

Rehearsals will be at Alamance Lutheran Church and will generally occur between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. There will be a few nights that extend to 10:00 pm, some Friday night rehearsals that may go later, and some Saturday and Sunday morning/afternoon/evening rehearsals. Not all cast members will be scheduled for each rehearsal but you will be expected to attend all of the rehearsals for which you have been scheduled. Tech week begins on Sunday, March 4, 2018, with rehearsals each day/night at the Paramount Theater. Tech Week rehearsals may extend to 10:30 pm at the latest. All cast & crew MUST be present this week with no exceptions!

Regular performances will be at the Paramount at 7:00 pm on March 9, 10, 16, & 17, 2018 and 2:00 pm on March 10, 11, 17, & 18, 2018. All cast and tech crew members must be present for all regular performances.

Auditionees should be aware that participation in other productions that overlap and create conflicts with rehearsals for The Drowsy Chaperone may be considered in casting decisions.

Please note that The Drowsy Chaperone is rated “PG”, with some content that may not be suitable for younger audiences.
