What is Alamance Children’s Theatre?
Alamance Children’s Theatre Inc. is a private, non-profit community-based organization. Everyone just calls us ACT!
Our mission is to create quality theatrical opportunities for youth in our community, both as active participants in performance and production and as engaged audience members. ACT is a member group of Alamance Arts (formerly the Alamance County Arts Council), which partially supports ACT with funds from the GRASSROOTS program of the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency. All proceeds from ACT productions are used to pay for the resources and materials needed to produce high-quality theater for youth.
ACT provides opportunities for all youth and also offers ACT II, a program providing additional acting challenges for older and/or more experienced youth actors. ACT presents three full-scale productions each season. ACT also hosts theater workshops several times each year as well as ACTing Up, a summer performing arts camp for youth. All ACT and ACT II Productions are presented at the Paramount Theater in downtown Burlington, North Carolina.
Who can be involved in ACT?
Youth, ages 8 to 18, participate in all phases of theatrical production. They perform as cast members and work as stage managers, prop masters, set builders, backstage crew, sound and light technicians, ushers, and youth ACT Board members.
What about adults?
ACT is always looking for experienced directors and music directors to help us produce our shows and to lead our workshops. Also, volunteers are needed throughout the year to serve on various committees, help with productions and workshops, and support our youth participants.
