Directed by Andy Kielty
Stage Manager – Vacant
Interested Individuals Encouraged to Apply (See Below)
Alamance Children’s Theatre (ACT) will present A Christmas Carol at the Sara McMillan Brown Theater at Studio 1 in Burlington, NC.
Here is a delightfully refreshing version of Charles Dickens’s classic Christmas tale told from a new perspective — a young boy’s grandfather. Thomas enjoys spending time at his grandfather’s prominent London business, but has trouble understanding why his grandfather would give his hard-earned money to the poor. This gives Grandfather the perfect opportunity to tell the story of Ebenezer Scrooge as he recalls it, and a traditional retelling of A Christmas Carol comes to life onstage as a play-within-a-play. As the story goes, of course, revelations brought by visiting his past, present, and future with three ghosts persuade Scrooge to turn his life around. In this beautifully written adaptation, you’ll find all of the classic Charles Dickens characters, including Jacob Marley, Scrooge’s sister Fan and even his long-lost Belle. The play ends uniquely with a heartwarming surprise for all as we learn who Thomas’ grandfather really is.

ACT is seeking a Stage Manager for A Christmas Carol. ACT encourages interested individuals to email actchristmascarol2026@gmail.com by October 8th. Stage Manager applicants also need to fill out the Tech Crew Application.
STAGE MANAGER REQUIREMENTS: Must be in 9th grade and have participated in at least three ACT productions as either a cast member or tech crew or have had previous Stage Manager experience with Alamance Children’s Theatre. Stage Managers must have a good working knowledge of production and must complete any appropriate training or mentoring as requested by the director.
ACT is seeking individuals ages 12-18 to participate as part of the Tech Crew. Interested parties need to fill out the following form linked below. Parents of Tech Crew are required to attend both the initial Parent Meeting and Mid-Production Meetings. It is expected that Tech Crew will begin to attend rehearsals approximately one week prior to Tech Week. An exact date will be confirmed prior to the initial Parent Meeting.
The final cast list will be posted on ACT’s Facebook Page (and potentially ACT’s website) by Thursday, October 15th at 11am. Those individuals must email to accept or decline their roles at actchristmascarol2026@gmail.com by Saturday, October 17th at 2pm.
On Monday October 19, 2026, all cast, tech crew, parents/guardians, directors, and producers will meet at Alamance Lutheran Church at 7:00pm. A great deal of important information will be discussed, so it is MANDATORY that each Cast/Tech crew member and a parent/guardian attend this meeting. A $60 Participation Fee will be collected from each cast member ($50 for each additional sibling). This fee helps to cover some of the production costs. Scholarships for participation fees are available to ensure that no young person is unable to participate. Please email actchristmascarol2026@gmail.com or speak to one of the producers at the parent meeting to make these arrangements. Scholarship families will be requested to “Pay what they can” and will be asked to contribute additional volunteer hours to the production.
Rehearsals will predominantly occur at Alamance Lutheran Church and will generally occur between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights. There may be occasional Saturday morning/afternoon rehearsals and potentially a few Sunday afternoon/evening rehearsals. Not all cast members will be scheduled for each rehearsal, but each cast member will be expected to attend all of the rehearsals for which he or she is scheduled.
You MUST put any potential times your actor may not be able to attend rehearsals on the audition paperwork. These conflicts include weekly classes, scheduled vacations, band concerts, or any reason your actor would need to miss or be late for a rehearsal. Conflicts affect rehearsal scheduling as well as building chemistry with the cast, affect spacing due to missed cast members, etc so it is important to limit the number of conflicts to only necessary conflicts.
Failure to disclose conflicts during auditions may be grounds for removal from the production. For this show especially it is imperative that all conflicts are communicated AT THE TIME OF AUDITION.
Tech week begins on Sunday, November 29, 2026, with rehearsals each night at Studio 1. Tech Week rehearsals may extend to 10:00 pm or later depending on the needs observed during Tech Week. All cast members should be present this week with no exceptions! However, if an auditionee has a mandatory or long-term commitment that may conflict with attendance during Tech Week, that conflict should be detailed on the audition form and specifically discussed with production staff at auditions.
Regular performances will be in the Sara McMillan Brown Theater at Studio 1 at 7:00 pm on December 4-5 and 11-12 with 2:00 pm Matinees taking place on December 5-6 and 12-13, 2026. All cast and tech crew members must be present for all performances.
Auditionees should be aware that participation in other productions or other activities that overlap and/or create conflicts with rehearsals for A Christmas Carol will be considered in casting decisions.
